One of the homes from the ABC hit reality television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is now in foreclosure. The home is located in Lake City, Ga. and was built for the Harper family. After getting the gift of the spectacular home the Harper family took out a loan against the house for almost a half million dollars. The home would have cost about $450,000 to build.
But everything was donated, the materials and all of the intensive labor it took to build the home. It was featured on ABC television and then the home was presented to the Harper family. Reports claim that Milton and Patricia Harper of Lake City also received 25 years worth of cash to cover the taxes on the large home.
Now they have been kicked out of their house as they have defaulted on the loan. The claim is that they took out a loan for the value of the home for some sort of a construction business and that went down the tubes and failed. That must have meant that stopped making payments on what could have been their free home.
The bank now will seek to sell the home to regain some of their losses. ABC says it advises the lucky recipients of free homes to seek good financial planning. Are they kidding, the family owned the house outright thanks to the generosity of others and lost a half million dollars and now they have lost their home. A video is here that shows the home with a report of exactly what happened.
