Boardwalk Empire Pilot, $18 Million ‘Bigs Buck Bet’ for HBO

How much? The Boardwalk Empire pilot was costly, $18 million according to trade magazine variety for the 80- minute pilot and that produced the headline: “HBO lays a big-bucks bet on ‘Boardwalk,'” from the magazine.

The Wall Street Journal notes a $5 million, 300-foot-long boardwalk on the Brooklyn waterfront to recreate Atlantic City circa 1920 was bulit for the the new gangster series.

More cable notes…Rolling Stones star Sir Mick Jagger has been working with filmmaker Martin Scorsese on a new TV series. The 67-year-old rocker came up with the idea for the show, which will follow the lives of two friends during four different decades in the music industry.

HBO is reportedly interested in signing up the program, which currently has a working title of History of Music.

A source said to UK newspaper News of the World: “This was originally a movie idea of Jagger’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes a cameo appearance in it.” Scorsese directed a documentary about the band in 2008.
