Adam Lambert Surprisingly Comfortable Fronting Queen, Paying Respect to Freddie Mercury

June 27, 2012 By Staff

Adam Lambert is finding it ''surprisingly comfortable'' fronting Queen.

The US singer is stepping into the shoes of late singer Freddie Mercury to front the band when they play in Europe this summer and and said rehearsals are going well.

He told TV show BBC Breakfast: ''It's such a great challenge, I'm so excited. We've been rehearsing for the last few weeks and it's actually surprisingly comfortable.''

He added original guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor have been very welcoming and supportive.

He said: ''It could have been a very intimidating situation but Brian May and Roger Taylor are total class acts, very down to earth and we're having a good time playing great music.''

Adam also once again reiterated he will not be a replacement for 'I Want to Break Free' singer Freddie, but is creating a new take on the band's songs with Roger and Brian.

He said: ''I'm not going to be Freddie Mercury. Freddie Mercury is one of a kind, there is no chance of even trying. I'm just there to sing the music he helped create, pay respect and bring it to life.

''One of the exciting things about fronting Queen next month is that we're crashing two worlds together. I love the music of Queen and classic rock but right now I'm creating music that is a little more dance/pop hopefully with a rock 'n' roll spirit.''

Queen and Adam Lambert are playing in Moscow, Russia, Kiev, Ukraine and two shows in London at the end of June and July.
