Fantasy Football 2012 Player Rankings – QB Edition. Drew Brees has won the dollar stakes for 2012, signing a massive $100 million deal to remain the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints.
But is he your best option for QB in 2012 in fantasy football?
Brees is one of the top three signal callers, but in our 2012 initial player rankings for July 2012, he is bested by the Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and the New England Patriots QB Tom Brady.
Weapons for Brady have increased and now include Brandon Lloyd, Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, and now even Joseph Addai out of the backfield.
Aaron Rodgers is the number one QB on our draft board, but can the Packers offense run the ball at all?
"Do we need to? I think this is a pass-happy league, so I think it's got to start with the pass with us," the quarterback recently said on "NFL Total Access."
"The run has to be good enough to keep them honest, but we're going to have to throw the football to win games. We're going to have to run it probably a little bit more than we did last year," Rodgers added.
"It starts with the passing game with us, and with most teams as well."
Expect big numbers from Aaron Rodgers again in 2012.
Drew Brees now holds the National Football League’s single-season passing yards record, but he faces a few obstacles in 2012 including loads of issues in the coaching department.
Coach Sean Payton has been suspended through Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans for his role in Bounty gate.
Assistant coach Joe Vitt will lead the team through training camp, then a substitute for Vitt will step in while he serves his season-opening 6-game suspension, and then Vitt returns for the final 10 games of the season for a mess at the top for the Saints.
On offense, Pro Bowl LG Carl Nicks and WR Robert Meachem are gone, replaced by veteran G Ben Grubbs and fourth-round draft pick Nick Toon.
Still, Brees is a very accurate passer and he would still be a top three QB.
