Did John Warner swim in the US Senate pool naked?
Was the reason so that he and other male US Senators could keep women out of the pool, and keep it 'males only?'
According to former North Carolina Senator Kay Hagan, Warner and other US Senators who were male wanted the pool to be an all boys club and to achieve this would swim naked in the pool, apparently hoping to scare women off.
Politico magazine reveals in "The Secret History of Women in the Senate" that lots of the old men who are elected US Senators loved to skinny dip to keep those pesky gals from joining in using the pool facilities.
John Warner, a Republican, is now finally retired, but would have been 80 years old at the time, so it's hard to imagine who would want to be in the pool with his naked body, male or female.
Thankfully, the practice of old guys naked in the taxpayer funded swimming pool is now over.
The practice was halted in 2009 after Kay Hagan gave a speech at a pro-choice women’s luncheon sponsored by EMILY’s List in Washington, where she spoke about the “John Warner swimming in the Senate pool naked” story.
She revealed:
"Imagine my surprise when I tried to use the Senate members’ gym recently and found out that there is a pool, but — guess what — it’s only for the men."
Senators later denied the pool was for males only, but now all of the members of the US Senate, both male and female, are allowed to use the pool.
