Spencer Ware and Jamaal Charles – who will start week one at RB for the KC Chiefs?
The Kansas City Chiefs open the 2016 NFL season at home versus the San Diego Chargers and in fantasy football, that means the possibility of a high scoring game for the starting RB of the Chiefs.
With the news this week that Charles rehab from surgery to repair a torn ACL is taking longer than expected, is Spencer Ware a must grab handcuff if you draft Charles?
Yes!
And if you've already drafted Charles and don't have Ware on your roster, go pick him up before an opponent does.
Another Chiefs RB, Charcandrick West, may also see more touches in the Chiefs backfield if Charles rehab drags on, but Ware is the one to pick up for a handcuff of Charles.
Eric Karabell of ESPN makes this case:
"Spencer) Ware is the bigger back in terms of weight and if roles are divided more likely to handle the bulk of the carries, especially in short yardage and goal-line attempts. West can be fast and elusive, but Ware was clearly the better back in 2015."
"Charles remains a RB2, though perhaps not so much in September. I’d go game to game with him but if there’s ever a great time for him to be hit or miss for fantasy, it’s early."
"Ware has become a top-40 running back based on the opportunity to not only handle the bulk of the load in September, but perhaps continue in a timeshare in which Charles is more of a specialty player and receiver out of the backfield."
Ware is still available in 64% of leagues in ESPN and should be owned in most fantasy football formats.
